Review: This Shattered World by Kaufman and Spooner (#2)

Star Rating:
5/5 golden stars of awesome
Forever Favorite

If you haven't read These Broken Stars, please do.

Crying now because of how beautiful this book is.

I'm not going to write a huge review because I just....I don't know where to begin and so much is going on in my head.

Lemme just say that I really appreciate the uniqueness of both Flynn and Jubilee.  For starters, their names are AWESOME.  And just really - their voices were so distinct and flowed so well with the story.  I adored them both separately and together.

I love everything that's opening up to us as readers.  We are starting to see some of the big picture now, everything is coming together.  I have some questions answered, but I also have more new questions that I had before.  I'm quite all right with that, because I really do believe these incredibly talented ladies will pull through.

My only problem was that a few things were fuzzy for me in the beginning.  It might have been my mood, or how distracted I was with starting the second draft of my own novel, but I was a bit confused by things such as:  the Fury, why there were Rebels, etc.  My questions were all answered about these things, and my fuzzy head was cleared, but it felt like a little later on in the book than I would have preferred.  It didn't really matter, in the end, because I was just so into the story and intent on finding things out and just JUBILEE AND FLYNN OKAY.

If I compare this book to These Broken Stars, it's not quite as good.  But it's close, and I am thankful for even half as much awesome as the first book.

So yeah, there you have it.  I am dying for the next book already (I was dying for it before I even finished this one) and I am so looking forward to what Kaufman & Spooner have in store for us.

Have you read This Shattered World?  What did you think?  Leave your comments below - gimme some good ole book talk.

The second installment in the epic Starbound trilogy introduces a new pair of star-crossed lovers on two sides of a bloody war.

Jubilee Chase and Flynn Cormac should never have met.

Lee is captain of the forces sent to Avon to crush the terraformed planet's rebellious colonists, but she has her own reasons for hating the insurgents.

Rebellion is in Flynn's blood. Terraforming corporations make their fortune by recruiting colonists to make the inhospitable planets livable, with the promise of a better life for their children. But they never fulfilled their promise on Avon, and decades later, Flynn is leading the rebellion.

Desperate for any advantage in a bloody and unrelentingly war, Flynn does the only thing that makes sense when he and Lee cross paths: he returns to base with her as prisoner. But as his fellow rebels prepare to execute this tough-talking girl with nerves of steel, Flynn makes another choice that will change him forever. He and Lee escape the rebel base together, caught between two sides of a senseless war.

First category: A Book Set Somewhere You've Always Wanted to Visit

Aha! My first category pick - and I am so excited!!

Now, this book doesn't have great reviews, but for some reason I am still SO interested. It's short, I've discovered, which usually isn't a good sign for me. I prefer long books. But. I am willing to give this book a go!!

Plus, the cover...the hopeless romantic in me is in love with it. And Russia during the Cold War? Yes, please. Give it here.

I will be starting this book on January 1st or 2nd, depending on when I finish the books I'm working on now.

Anyway - have any of you read this book? What did you think?

Okay, I have no idea for how long.  But you'll never guess what I'm doing this year.....

That's right - a reading challenge!

Now, if you know me, you know I have a hard time with reading challenges.  I often feel like they make it hard for me to read spontaneously.  Buuuuut.  I'm doing this one with my nearest and dearest friend, and a few other people have decided to join, and I'm just really excited!

The fun starts on January 1st.  I have to read 52 books next year to complete this, and I have faith I can do it.  I actually am hoping to read around 80, but that might be kind of a stretch, what with writing and all.  (I'm writing the 2nd book in my series and about to query for the 1st. EEEP!)

Anyway.  I will try to devote 30 minutes of blogging time a week, so basically one book review.  It will be simple and fun and my signature silly fangirly-ness.  Ans I hope you'll all join me for some of this fun madness - I'd love to discuss!!  I might even start blogging about writing on here...we shall see.

I will be back hopefully right after Christmas to talk my picks for each thing on the list and gush some more about how happy I am to be back.

Love you all!! Xoxo
